What will I learn?

Worry is a natural and normal part of the human condition. From an evolutionary perspective it has played a role in our survival and has helped us cope with many of the challenges we face today. Unfortunately though, worry easily moves from being healthy and adaptive to being a preoccupation with perceived threats or an inability to tolerate uncertainty.

In this course you will be armed with Cognitive and Behavioural Techniques, Mindfulness practices, and even some Acceptance and Commitment Techniques to ensure that you have every weapon in your arsenal to conquer worry.

WEEK 1

We examine the nature of worry and how it can impact your health. We discuss the likelihood that your worries will eventuate (trust me it’s less than you think!), what exactly happens to your brain when you worry and we learn our first skill in disarming worry - worry time.

WEEK 2

We examine what maintains your worry (here’s a clue: it involves your beliefs, attention + strategies around worry).  We discover why unhelpful beliefs can be so problematic and how to recognise them.  We discover an attention workout to help train your mind to focus on the now (some Mindfulness goodness), rather than on those pesky worries.  AND you will learn how to problem solve (not the mental kind!).

WEEK 3

We tackle uncertainty! We discuss how uncertainty impacts on worry and how it is an attitude you can learn to adjust.  We examine the tricks it plays on you and the safety behaviours you might engage with (avoidance vs approach). We also look at how you can start challenging uncertainty with some behavioural experiments. To finish off the week we engage with a Mindfulness practice.

WEEK 4

In our final week we discuss the power of language and our thoughts and how NOT to buy into them. We learn to view your thoughts as simply that, thoughts, and how to take the power out of them with some explosive cognitive defusion strategies.

Workbook

You will also have access to a workbook to help you along this learning journey, with extra exercises, tools, tips and strategies to help elevate your results.
